“1 in 3″ Launches a project on Kickstarter!!!
Okay, so this is officially the LAST post to this blog space!!! Can’t miss an opportunity to reach more of our readers.
We recently launched a project on Kickstarter.com. What’s Kickstarter? Well, Kickstarter is a KICK ASS online community that helps artist raise funds to Kickstart their creative projects. If you’ve followed this blog, then you know of all the sound woes we’ve had. Well, with all of the great things in store for “1 in 3″ in 2011 professionally correcting the sound is one of those great things. If and only if we are able to raise the funds to pay our professional sound team. There are two ways you can help:
1. You can back the film. Even if it’s $1 dollar donation it helps get us closer to our target goal. Notice that I didn’t say, “just $1 dollar”. We believe that every little bit helps. If we have 50 people who make a $1 dollar donation, then we are $50 dollars closer to yes, our target goal. It’s all or nothing folks! If we don’t reach our goal, then we don’t get anything.
2. You can SPREAD THE WORD! This is so very important. How can people back a project if they don’t know about it? Feel free to post it on your Facebook, Myspace, Tweet about it, if you have a website you can post it there. Go bananas!! I plan to SPAM everyone in my address book. Of course it will be in a nice not so spammy way

A Year Ago Today!
A year ago today was the first day of principal photography for “1 in 3″. Saturday, September 6th and Sunday, September 7th was our first weekend shoot. I remember feeling scared, nervous, anxious, excited, and a slew of other adjectives that first weekend. We started our Saturday out at the Women’s Resource Center and ended that day at Transition House . I remember spirits and moral being high. Our lead actress was not feeling well that day, but she pressed on. On Sunday, we spent the morning at the Noble High School track before moving over to the house of my good friend and her husband. Boy, what a weekend that was! I have fond memories and can’t believe it’s officially been a year. By then the blog was in full swing and we were all ready to see this project through… and now it’s done. We did it!!!
We are happy to say that we will be having our second festival screening in the state of Oklahoma next weekend. Southern Winds Film Festival will be hosting “1 in 3″ on Saturday, September 11th at 4:15 pm. We are all very excited to attend this screening and hope to see you all there. Also, we anticipate the launch of the “1 in 3″ website soon. Yay!!! The blog will remain, but will also be incorporated into the new site. We will Feature resources for those who are affected by domestic violence, screening dates, a new behind the scenes video, “1 in 3″ t-shirts for sale, and eventually DVD’s of “1 in 3″ will be for sale. We are all very excited about this prospect. Also, we are hoping to raise funds via kickstarter.com to complete the sound work we would like to do and to help pay film festival entry fees. So, though we are done… well, kind of… we still have a lot of exciting things to come as far as this film is concerned. So, please check back and THANK YOU for your continued support!

1 in 3 at OCADVSA Conference!!!
Not even a week after the screening at deadCENTER, 1 in 3 had another screening in Tulsa for the Oklahoma Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Conference. The screening took place on Wednesday, June 16th at 5pm. I was extremely nervous about this screening, because the audience would be made up of domestic violence and sexual assault professionals. So, it was kind of like a moment of truth if you will.
There was a Q & A before the screening of the film, because the audience was eager to know more about the project. For most, it was the first time that any of them had heard of 1 in 3. So, one of the first questions had to deal with whether or not it was a documentary. We’ve gotten that question ALOT! I think, because of the subject matter many people are expecting to see a documentary OR something like the Jennifer Lopez film “Enough”. 1 in 3 is neither and is best described in a review written by Sunrise Tippeconnie on The Candler Blog, “1 in 3 is not so much a depiction of Lifetime–melodrama nor the exploitive horrors that are common in domestic abuse thrillers, but a more realistic drafting of the possibilities of subtle daily domestic violence.”
1 in 3 at deadCENTER
Well, it has been one busy week for 1 in 3!!!! Last weekend 1 in 3 had its World/Oklahoma Premier at the 10th Annual deadCENTER Film Festival. The festival ran from Wednesday June 9th – Sunday June 13th. We were all very excited to be a part of the festival! So, we made sure to come out everyday to support the other films that had made it into the festival. It was also a great chance to meet people and promote the upcoming screening of 1 in 3. As Saturday drew near, I must say that I became rather nervous, but rest assured, had nothing to be nervous about because the screening on Saturday was FANTASTIC! There were so many elements that made the screening FANTASTIC – Angela Startz’s press release following the screening sums it up best:
OKLAHOMA FILM WINS OVER FESTIVAL AUDIENCE
OKLAHOMA CITY – The lights dimmed as stragglers rushed in, trying to find seats in the packed auditorium. Chairs were lined across the back of the theater. The introduction to deadCENTER Film Festival ran as anticipation mounted in the room. Then the first scene appeared: a woman, running from room to room in a dream.
The audience was hooked. The story of Sydell Thomas and Ophelia Metz, two women involved in a domestic abuse shelter, unfolded on the screen with plot twists and turns that no one anticipated. When an equipment malfunction stopped the presentation in the middle, a collective groan erupted from the crowd, followed by patient waiting as the staff at the Norick Library worked to correct the issue. No one left. They wanted to see what happened next. At times funny, sad, poignant and informative, the film 1 in 3, written and directed by Lagueria Davis, won over the audience of deadCENTER and finished with extended applause…
The film was also informative as well as entertaining, as was stated by audience members during the Q&A:
